Turkish company will build icebreakers for Russia

The Turkish company Kuzey Star Shipyard will be the real builder of two icebreakers for the “Rosmorport”, despite the fact that the tender worth 18.5 billion won the Onega factory, jumped by the Rosmorport itself. About this with reference to sources writes Kommersant.

One of the interlocutors of the publication noted that the configuration of work for the Turkish side would be approved. But the other confirmed that in any case, both vessels would be completely built in Turkey. Head icebreaker must be transferred to the customer in September 2024, the second – in December of the same year.

Previously, according to the same scheme Kuzey, he concluded a contract for the construction of two ferries on LNG for the Ust-Luga line – Baltiysk. And last month also it became known that Turkish Sefine Shipyard will build a rescue vessel for the Northern Sea Route.

Market representatives noted that Turkish contractors have experience and, most likely, will be able to withstand the claimed value and construction time, while Russian plants such a guarantee can not give.
