Turkish Embassy In Damascus In 12 Years Resumed Its Activities

A Turkish flag is raised over the building of the Turkish Embassy in Damascus, which marks the resumption of the embassy after a 12-year break.

In Syria on November 27, the opposition forces entered into a clash with the forces of the Bashar al-Assad regime in the western part of Aleppo, and on December 8 they took control of the capital of Damascus, overthrowing the 61-year-old Basist regime in the country.

On December 14, the Turkish flag was raised over the building of the Turkish Embassy in Damascus, whose activities were suspended in 2012, after which the work of the embassy was officially resumed.

On December 12, Turkey Ambassador to Mauritania Burkhan Koroglu was appointed temporary attorney in the affairs of the Turkish embassy in Damascus.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan notified the ambassador to Keroglu about his new appointment.

Turkish Embassy in Damascus (Syria), located next to Ravda Square, where diplomatic missions are concentrated, on March 26, 2012 ceased its activities.

In connection with this decision, employees of the embassy and their families returned to Turkey.

The Consulate General of Syria in Istanbul continued its activities.
