Turkey confirms the commitment of the Montreux Convention on the status of straits and will fulfill its provisions. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlyut Chavushoglu at a meeting with the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday, writes TASS.
“We remind you that our decision regarding the Montreux Convention remains the same. We will continue to comply with its provisions,” he said. “We want to note that we were pleased to learn about Russia’s decision on the non-expression of two strait courts,” added Chavushoglu
Turkish minister also expressed his readiness to discuss the situation in Ukraine. “We have a very important topic on the agenda – the Ukrainian crisis. Naturally, we have to do everything in order to find a solution to this crisis peaceful ways. Today we will exchange views on this critical topic,” he said.
Turkish Foreign Minister noted that his country “as a state that supports contacts with both parties to the conflict makes everything possible to contribute to the speedy permission of the problem.”
He expressed the opinion that the previous experience of Russia and Turkey for Syria and Libya will contribute to this. “It is thanks to the trust relations that have developed between our countries during the work on these areas, we have the opportunity to be at this table today,” said Chavushoglu, thanking for the trust rendered.
Commenting on the relations of the Russian Federation and Turkey, he noted the latitude of the spectrum of cooperation and suggested also to dwell on the discussion of the issues of the two-way track.
