Turkish Foreign Ministry condemns decision of Uruguay Parliament on recognition of 1915 events “by genocide

Turkey rejects and condemns the decision to recognize the events of 1915 by “genocide”, adopted by the Uruguayan parliament and signed by the acting President Uruguay.

A written statement published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that this law violates international law, in particular the United Nations (UN) of 1948 on the prevention of a crime of genocide and punishment for it.

“We reject and condemn the law adopted by the Uruguay parliament and signed by the acting President Uruguay, who recognizes the events of 1915” Genocide, “the statement said.

Turkish Foreign Ministry believes that legislative bodies and politicians have no right to make decisions on controversial historical issues.

“It is unacceptable that the parliament and government of Uruguay are trying to achieve their local political calculations by distorting history,” the foreign policy of Turkey emphasizes.
