The fight against terrorism is a key aspect in the settlement of the Syrian crisis. This was stated on Wednesday by Turkish Permanent at the UN Sedat ONAL at a Council of People’s Commissars on the situation in Syria.
“The obligation to protect political unity and the territorial integrity of Syria should become a priority for all of us. The elimination of threats to neighboring countries is also crucial,” said the diplomat.
ONAL emphasized that Turkey will continue to fight terrorism in Syria in all its forms and manifestations, based on the legal right to self -defense, which arises from the UN Charter.
According to him, Ankara is determined to destroy “destabilizing and separatist plans” terrorist organizations like PKK/YPG and deash.
The ambassador expressed the concern of Turkey about the recent violations of the ceasefire in the Syrian Idlib. “It is necessary to avoid any escalation to prevent new humanitarian tragedies,” the Permanent Proper warned.
ONAL recalled that Turkey has been providing refuge for millions of Syrians for more than ten years, who were forced to leave their homeland due to an armed conflict. “Turkey is a country taking the largest number of refugees in the world,” he said.
“Promoting the voluntary, safe and worthy return of the Syrian refugees should be an integral part of our general efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis. In this connection, we need to intensify activities to create conditions that contribute to the implementation of these criteria,” continued the Permanent Representative. >
The diplomat emphasized that unhindered delivery of the UN cross-border gumpoisers remains vital for millions of people in need of it in the north-west of Syria.
