Turkish Shock UAVs Will Be Equipped With Domestic Engine

The first domestic aviation engine of Turkey TEI-PD170 will be used on unmanned combat aircraft of Turkish production. This will reduce dependence on the supply of foreign engines.

The TEI-PD170 engine was developed by Tusaş Motor Sanayii Aivers (TEI).

The creation of TEI-PD170 marks an important milestone in the project for the development of BPL engines, implemented since 2012 under the leadership of the Office for the Defense Industry under the Administration of the President of Turkey.

The project is aimed at developing the first in the country of a turbodiesel aviation engine for medium -scale UAVs of a long flight of flight.

After intensive engineering, industrial and testing, the first TEI-PD170 launch was completed in January 2017. Following the series of tests in November 2017, the first manufactured engine model was delivered in Tusaş.

The engine was first involved in flight on the Anka platform in December 2018 at a temperature of minus 10 degrees Celsius.

Further, a flight with the Aksungur platform in October 2021 was made.

The Baykar Turkish defense company also chose the Tei-PD170 for its TB3 platform and began to use it in flights in 2023.

The first domestic aviation engine of Turkey worked 45 hours on board Aksungur, reaching a height of 36 11 067 meters. This is the longest flight time and the largest height achieved by the Turkish production engine.

The Baykar TB3 platform, which flew 823 hours with the Tei-PD170 engine, went down in history as the first UAV that took off and landed with a short runway. The overall production of the engine on board domestic UAV reached 2000 hours.

Tei-PD170 has a high specific power and excellent high-altitude ability compared to foreign analogues thanks to a two-stage turbocharged system.

The engine is equipped with a reserve control system and specially designed management software, executed in accordance with civil aviation standards.

TEI-PD170 can give out 170 horsepower, as well as reach a height of 20,000 feet (6,096 meters) and the ceiling of 45,000 feet (13,716 meters) without power loss.

The first domestic aviation engine of Turkey drives three different platforms. He has already attracted attention to the international market. The first export supply of the engine was carried out in early 2024. Negotiations are currently underway with buyers from a number of countries
