Turkish Women Gave World 75 Million Flowers By March 8

Türkiye, on the eve of International Women’s Day, sent a record number of cut flowers – 75 million pieces – in 34 countries of the world. This impressive result became possible thanks to the work of Turkish women, which make up 80% of the labor in the flower sector.

“Our women with love and care collect and pack flowers grown in 60 thousand Descasions of the Earth,” said Ismail Yilmaz, head of the Association of Exporters of Decorative Plants and Products. “These flowers bear joy and smiles to women around the world,” he added.

According to him, the demand for Turkish flowers by March 8 increased by 10% compared to last year, which indicates the growing popularity of this traditional gift. The main importers were the Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, Bulgaria and Romania. Even in conflict, Turkish flowers were sent to Russia and Ukraine.

“People are increasingly choosing flowers as a symbol of attention and respect, abandoning expensive, but less significant gifts,” said Yilmaz.

Flower workers proudly talk about their work.

“Flowers are the best gift for a woman,” says Muazzeze, who has been working in the industry for 25 years.

“They give joy and energy,” adds Durai Yildiz, whose experience is 30 years.
