Türkiye and the European Union share the opinion on the need to preserve the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Syria with the formation of an inclusive government in the country.
This was stated by Turkish President Recep Typ Erdogan at a joint press conference with the chairman of the European Commission Ursula von der Lyaine in Ankara.
touching the prospects of the relationship of Ankara and Brussels, he emphasized that the general interests of Turkey and the EU should not become hostages of the unseemly plans of some members of the European Union. “Today, more than ever, more strong and institutionalized relations between Turkey and the EU are necessary. As a Candidate country, Turkey strives for this,” said the Turkish leader.
The Head of State expressed the hope that the decisions of the upcoming Summit of the EU will contribute to the updating of the Customs Union between Turkey and the EU, as well as the acceleration of visa procedures for Turkish citizens up to a visa -free regime.
Touching upon the topic of the fight against terrorism, President Erdogan noted that “Türkiye is the only country of NATO that defeated the terrorist organizations of the RSC and Deasha on the battlefield.”
