Türkiye And Sweden Will Hold Meeting On Security

On Tuesday, January 21, Ankara will host the next meeting as part of the Security Mechanism of Türkiye-Sever. This was reported by diplomatic sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

As reported, the consultations will be attended by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Turkish Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlika, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Maria Malmer Stenergard and Minister of Justice of Sweden Gunnar Strommer.

The meeting of the mechanism is important in terms of the development of cooperation between the institutions of the two countries in the fight against terrorism.

It is expected that the Turkish Foreign Minister will call Stockholm to take further steps against the activities of the PKK/PYD/YPG terrorist organizations in Sweden, including the cessation of their financial and propaganda activity.

Hakan Fidan will also emphasize Ankara’s concern with the growth of extreme right movements, Islamophobia and racism in Europe and will voice the call for effective measures to combat these trends.

In addition, during the discussions, the issue of lifting restrictions in the field of defense industry will be considered in order to promote the result and long -term cooperation.

Trilateral Memorandum

In June 2022, during the NATO summit in Madrid, Turkey, Sweden and Finland signed a tripartite memorandum, which sets out the obligations of the two Scandinavian countries to strengthen the anti -terrorism legislation, to stop the terrorist activities of the RSC and remove restrictions on export of defense products to Turkey.

Since that time, Sweden has adopted a number of measures, including the new law on the fight against terrorism of July 2022 and the amendments to the Constitution that entered into force on January 2023, tightening measures to counteract the activities of terrorist organizations.

Security mechanism
