Turkey has delivered the first batch of natural gas to Bulgaria as part of the 13-year-old energy contract between the two countries.
On the Turkish LNG Terminal Marmara Ereğlisi, a gas launch ceremony was held with the participation of the Minister of Energy of Bulgaria Rosen Christ, the general director of the oil and gas company Botaş Burkhan Ozzhana and the general director of the Bulgargaz Denitsa Zlateva.
Botaş CEO in his speech noted the significance of the start of gas supplies for both Turkey and Bulgaria.
“The volume of gas, which will initially be put in Bulgaria will be about 55 million cubic meters, and in general, Turkey plans to transport about 1.5 billion cubic meters per year to the neighboring country,” Ozzhan said, noting that it is technically possible to increase the volume of supplies Blue fuel as demand grows in Bulgaria.
He drew attention to the fact that the volume of LNG gaz entering Turkey today reaches 161 million cubic meters per day. “This is equivalent to 50 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Thus, we demonstrate Bulgaria and other European countries the potential of our country that can be used,” said Botaş CEO.
The Minister of Energy of Bulgaria Rosen Christ, in turn, said that the LNG-tanker of the American company Chenier is located in the port of Marmara Ereğlisi.
“The terminal will regart, storage and supply to Bulgaria in interaction with Botaş. This cooperation is of great importance not only for the energy security of Bulgaria, but also of Southeast and Central Europe,” added Bulgarian Minister. P>
Turkey and Bulgaria on January 3 signed an agreement according to which Bulgaria will receive about 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas through Turkey per year for 13 years.
