The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey condemned the terrorist attack, as a result of which more than 50 military personnel died in the north of Benin. This is stated in the official statement of the department.
“With a deep sorrow, we learned about the death of more than 50 Benin soldiers as a result of the attack. We decisively condemn this vile attack and express condolences to the families of the dead and the people of Benin,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.
Earlier, the official representative of Benin Wilfried Leander Ungbedi said that on April 17 in the National Park W, located on the border with Burkina-Faso and Niger, the militants attacked the units of the Armed Forces. 54 military were killed.
The responsibility for the attack was taken by the terrorist group associated with al-Qaeda.
Since 2016, Benin, bordering Niger and Burkina-Faso, is faced with an increasing threat of terrorism.
