Since 2018, Türkiye has continued to actively cooperate with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Gambia and further efforts to develop bilateral relations will continue. This was stated by the adviser to the Turkish Embassy in Banzhul Volkan Karala.
In an interview with Anadol, Karaly noted that the embassy adviser performs tasks for interacting with the law enforcement agencies of the country of stay, expand cooperation, monitoring events relating to Turkey, as well as transmitting information to the relevant structures. >
According to him, cooperation between Turkey and the Gambee in the field of security has been carried out since 1991, when the first agreement on logistics support and training was signed.
, within the framework of these agreements, the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs provides assistance to the Gambia Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Cauls recalled that in the period from 1991 to 2005, the instructors of the Turkish gendarme units conducted training 7,550 military personnel.
In 2023-2024, on the eve of the Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, 189 Gambia Police officers took place on VIP-free and special operations in urban conditions.
“In addition, at the moment, 131 Gambia police officers have been trained in Turkey, and 7 students, two of which women continue to study at the Academy of Gendarmerie and Coast Guard,” he added.
The adviser said that since 1991, as part of assistance, Türkiye has transferred various equipment to Gambia, including three drones.
He also recalled that the Main Security Directorate of Turkey organized 28 specialized courses from 2006 to 2022, where 441 Gambian employees were trained.
In the 2023-2024 academic year, 9 Gambian students graduated from the Turkish Police Academy, and at present 7 are continuing training there.
According to Karala, in the period from 2020 to 2024, Türkiye provided Gambia equipment for response to riots.
In addition, in the near future, the Gambia Ministry of Internal Affairs will receive 2 fire brigades, 2 ambulances and 50 sets of equipment to maintain public order.
Cauls emphasized that in the future, interaction with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Gambia will expand, and work to strengthen cooperation will continue without a break.
