Türkiye Intends To Discuss With United States Abolition Of Duties On Turkish Export

Ankara intends to achieve the abolition of additional 10 percent customs duties introduced by the United States regarding Turkish goods. This was stated by the Minister of Trade of Turkey Omer Bolat.

According to him, this issue will be raised during official negotiations with the US Department of Trade and the US Trade Representative.

“We want to discuss in negotiations with the American side the abolition of 10 percent duties imposed on Turkish export in the United States,” the Bolat emphasized.

Bolat noted that against the backdrop of the introduction of the United States significantly higher duties against other countries, Türkiye was among those who have undergone smallest restrictions.

“We regard this as a situation that can be described as the” smallest of evils “in the current trade policy of the United States,” the minister said.

The Minister said that, as part of the adjustment of the foreign economic strategy, Ankara intends to strengthen exports to the United States, especially in industries such as textiles, finished clothes and mechanical engineering.

In addition, Bolat said that Türkiye seeks to develop trade and economic cooperation with the United States on a balanced basis as part of the principle of mutual benefit, as in the case of other countries.

In May, Bolat plans to make a visit to Washington to participate in the Turkish-American conference and holding official meetings with the Minister of Trade of the United States and a trading representative.

One of the main topics of the negotiations will be the preparation of a bilateral plan of action in the field of trade.
