Turkish Foreign Ministry expressed concern in connection with the signing of a memorandum of partnership and cooperation between Ethiopia and Somaliland unrecognized education from Somalia.
“We are concerned about the memorandum of partnership and cooperation, which was signed between Ethiopia and Somaliland in Addis Ababe on January 1, 2024 without the knowledge and consent of the Somali government,” the official representative of the Turkish diplomatic member of Ondge Kecheli on social networks said .
The diplomat confirmed the adherence of Ankara to “unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.” He emphasized that this position meets the requirements of international law.
According to him, Turkey advocates the settlement of disagreements between Somalia and Somaliland through direct negotiations. The representative of the department confirmed the support of Ankara initiatives in this direction.
Memorandum allows Ethiopia to act both for commercial and military purposes off the coast of Somaliland.
At the end of the signing ceremony, Somaliland President Musa Bihi Abdi said that Ethiopia recognizes the “independence” of education.
The Ethiopia Agreement with Somaliland on access to the Red Sea coast has strengthened the tension in the region that has become aggravated in recent years.
