Turkey leads in Europe and takes 4th place in the world in terms of the scale of forestry.
This was announced by the head of the Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey, Bekir Karajaby, citing reports of the UN food and agricultural organization (FAO).
He noted that the work on forest plantations over the past 21 years in Turkey is five times more compared to the period covering the early 1900s to 2002.
“The area of forests, which in the early 2000s was 20.8 million hectares, reached 23.2 million hectares today. 29.6 percent of the territory of our country is covered with forests (…) We carried out work on overwording 13 thousands of hectares of the territory of sandy dunes, ”said Karajaby.
He emphasized that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan set the task of overwhelming as part of the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic.
“We have set the task of covering with forests at least 30 percent of the territory of our country. In this context over the past 20 years, we planted 6 billion 600 million seedlings. Thanks to the work that we will do by the end of this year, we will exceed the target indicator of 7 billion people and cover 30 percent of the territory of our country with forests, ”said the head of the forestry department.
