Türkiye Will Play Key Role In Energy Transformation Of Libya

Libya, which has rich oil reserves, plans to satisfy the growing demand for electricity through the use of renewable energy sources and overcome the technological lag in this area, taking advantage of the experience and investment support of its strategic partner – Turkey.

In seven -billional Libya, the growing demand for electricity exceeds the production capacities of power plants operating on oil and natural gas. To this end, the North African country plans to increase the share of renewable energy sources, primarily solar and wind energy, in its energy portfolio.

Libya intends to achieve 4 gigavatt of renewable energy capacities by the end of 2035 within the framework of its strategy in the field of renewable energy and efficiency. According to estimates, in the future, 20 percent of the country’s energy portfolio will consist of renewable energy sources.

In order to wrap up the great potential in the field of solar and wind energy to the benefit of the country’s economy, Libya needs international cooperation.

Close ties between the two countries put Turkey with its experience and technologies in the field of renewable energy sources in the first place in the list of countries that will determine the energy future of Libya.

The head of the Libyan organization for renewable energy sources to Abdussels al-Ansari, in an interview with Anadolu, noted that the cooperation of Turkey and Libya in the energy sector is based on historical ties between the two countries.

According to him, the structure he head cooperates with Turkish companies in the field of electricity and renewable energy sources. “Within the framework of our strategy in the field of renewable energy sources, we plan to interact with companies from various countries, while giving priority to Turkish companies. We have already discussed several projects with two or three large Turkish companies. We hope to strengthen these relations and begin the implementation of projects with these companies “, He said.

According to al-Ansari, the Association pays special attention to the exchange of information and building the potential of interaction with Turkish companies. “We carry out joint projects in areas such as human resources, renewable energy sources, connecting to electric networks and increasing the efficiency of work. We call Turkish companies to Libya’s activities. There are many opportunities, and we will be happy to accept these companies,”- The interlocutor of the agency noted.
