Turkey intends to reopen the Consulate General in the city of Bengram in the east of Libya in the near future. This was stated on Tuesday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Hakan Fidan.
“We decided to again open our Consulate General in Bengham. We will open it soon,” the minister said at a joint press conference with the Maltese colleague Yan Borg in La Valetta.
The head of Turkish diplomacy emphasized that Ankara does not want to renew the armed conflict in Libya.
“We want Libya to resolve our problems through dialogue. We also do not want the current split between the East and the West (Livivi – Ed.) Continuing constantly,” Fidan said.
The diplomat stated that Turkish relations with the administration in the east of Libya “are gradually developing.” He noted that Turkish companies also resumed work in the region.
According to him, Turkey continues joint efforts with Egypt, the UAE and other “friendly countries of the region” in order to play a constructive role in the Libyan issue. “
Fidan said that after a visit to Malta, he plans to visit Libya to meet with senior representatives of the Libyan authorities. “We will meet with the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, a delegation of the Supreme State Council and the Presidential Council in Tripoli,” he said. Fidan said that during the upcoming negotiations, he will confirm Ankara’s commitment to a constructive policy against Libya.
