On June 17, the European Commission (EC) will recommend that Ukraine provide the status of a candidate for joining the EU. It is reported by Bloomberg.
sources of the agency note that Kyiv will be set a number of conditions for assigning such a status. In particular, EC wants to see the “supremacy of the law and the fight against corruption.”
At the same time, a number of countries included in the EU are skeptical of the possibility of providing Kyiv of any privileges for joining the block. In particular, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Portugal argue that Ukraine does not sufficiently comply with the principles of the EU related to the rule of law or basic rights. It is also common that Ukraine cannot be preferred to existing candidates.
