UN: 2023 may become record for number of dead employees of humanitarian organizations

The UN warned that 2023 may be another year of the mass death of employees of humanitarian organizations, according to the website of the UN News Center.

Such a warning was released on the eve of World Humanitarian Assistance Day, which is annually celebrated on August 19.

According to preliminary data, since the beginning of the year, 62 humanitarian employees have died in the zones of armed conflicts, 84 were injured, 34 were stolen.

Last year, the number of dead humanitarian workers reached 116 people.

The most dangerous region in the world for employees of humanitarian organizations remains South Sudan. As of August 16, it is known about 40 attacks on humanitarian employees, while 22 employees died.

Sudan takes the second place. Since the beginning of 2023, 17 attacks on humanitarian workers and 19 dead have been recorded there.

Humanitarian workers in Mali, Somalia and Ukraine are also at great risk.
