UN: 36 Percent Of Population Of Ukraine Need Humanitarian Assistance

The coordinator of the humanitarian aid of the United Nations (UN) in Ukraine Matias Shmale said that in 2025, 12.7 million people, or 36 percent of the population, need humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

This was announced in a weekly press conference in the online mode of the UN Geneva Branch.

recalling that the Russian-Ukrainian war began 3 years ago, Shmale noted that the number of victims of the war in Ukraine last year increased by 30 percent compared to 2023.

He emphasized that the humanitarian situation in Ukraine has worsened.

“This year, 12.7 million people or 36 percent of the population of Ukraine need humanitarian assistance. Winter conditions make the situation more dangerous. attacks on energy infrastructure can lead to the fact that hospitals and houses will be left without electricity and heating systems in The coldest months of the year, ”the coordinator said.

According to him, humanitarian needs are still relevant in the conditions of the ongoing war: “Every day they kill and wound civilians, destroy houses and schools, destroy livelihoods.”

Shmale noted that this year the organization will pay priority attention to the delivery of the necessary assistance to the front -line regions and the evacuation management from these regions.

“what is happening in Ukraine is the largest crisis of the population’s movement in Europe since the Second World War,” he said, adding that more than 10 million people were moved, of which about 3.7 million are within the country.

“The attention of the world is divided between many crises, at the same time, the humanitarian needs of Ukraine remain urgent.

By 2025, $ 2.6 billion is needed to assist 6 million people, providing them with food, medical care and housing. Without this financing, millions of people will face new difficulties, ”he warned.
