The representative of the UN Development Program (UNDP) in Myanmar Titon Mitra pointed to the difficulties that arose in the country after earthquakes in Myanmar. He noted that diseases transmitted through water are a growing threat.
Mitra made assessments at the weekly press conference of the United Nations of the Geneva Office (UN).
reminding that the number of those killed in Myanmar exceeded 3 thousand people as a result of earthquakes in the country, Mitra said that thousands of people were injured.
He stated that the search and rescue operations were replaced by “salvation” operations: “diseases transmitted through water pose an increasing threat due to insufficient amounts of medications and damage to water systems.”
According to him, many people in Myanmar are still sleeping on the streets, Mitra said that these people are afraid to return to their homes.
Mitra emphasized that 80 percent of the buildings in Saging turned into ruins, and the most important infrastructure facilities, including part of the Iravadi River, received serious damage.

Two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 occurred on March 28 near the Sagaving region in the central part of Myanmar.
Earthquakes, which were also very felt in neighboring countries – Thailand and China, led to great destruction in the country.
It is reported that the number of those killed as a result of these two earthquakes increased to 3564 people.
