UN calls for help: Save Afghanistan from hunger

The head of the UN Food Program called on world leaders to take urgent action to prevent catastrophic hunger in Afghanistan this winter.

“The situation is so bad, as far as you can imagine. In fact, we are talking about the most terrible humanitarian crisis on Earth,” said David Bizley in an interview with BBC.

BBC notes that the economy of Afghanistan was on the verge of collapse due to the coming to power of the “Taliban” and freezing of foreign aid. The coronavirus pandemic was added to this and a strong drought, which destroyed a substantial part of crops in the country.

“95% of the inhabitants of the country do not have enough nutrition, now it goes to the fact that 23 million people face sharp hunger,” the bizli stressed, visited Kabul on the weekend. “The following six months will be disastrous. It will hell on Earth,” he added.

Residents of rural areas are built into the long queues for the flour, which is provided by the UN in the world food program. For millions in Afghanistan, this humanitarian aid is the only way to survive in winter.

Bizley encourages the world elite to take urgent action: “World wealth is now 400 trillion dollars, so we shame to all. If we admit that at least somewhere the child dies from hunger, shame us. And no matter where this child is located .

According to UN estimates, in order to partially feed 23 million in need of Afghanistan, organizations require $ 220 million per month.
