UN: Closing Checkpoint In Gas Sector Led To An Increase In Food Prices By 100 Times

Closing of checkpoints (checkpoints) in the gas transportation sector for cargo transportation led to a sharp increase in prices for some food-100 times, the UN press service said.

The organization noted that the Kerem Shalom, Erem and Zimim checkpoint were closed, which actually blocked the delivery of vital humanitarian aid, including thousands of tents.

“Our humanitarian partners report that after the checkpoint closing flour and vegetables, they have increased more than 100 times. They currently estimate the stocks that remain in the gas sector,” the UN press service said.

Since January 19, about a thousand unisef trucks with clean water, medical supplies, vaccines, therapeutic nutrition and other essential items entered into Gaza. Since the beginning of the ceasefire, UNICEF and his partners provided 150 thousand children with warm clothing and increased the daily distribution of water for almost half a million people. Almost 250 thousand children, as well as thousands of pregnant and nursing women, received food additives.

According to UNICEF, the number of children in need of treatment from malnutrition has decreased. More than 100 public schools opened again, taking about 100 thousand students. In the city of Gaza and Northern Gaza, humanitarian organizations plan to use tents and wooden pallets to arrange temporary training classes.

The UN warns that the cessation of humanitarian assistance can lead to catastrophic consequences for children and their families.

The UN Secretary General Antoniu Gutherrish supported the efforts of the Arab countries to mobilize resources to restore Gaza, emphasizing that sustainable restoration is impossible without a clear and fundamental political strategy.
