UN condemned shares on desecration of sacred books

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution condemning any acts to desecrate sacred books and recognizes such actions by violation of international law.

A document initiated by Morocco was adopted by the UN MAN unanimously.

The resolution, in particular, decisively condemns “all acts of violence against persons on the basis of their religious affiliation or beliefs, as well as any similar acts directed against their religious symbols, sacred books, houses, property, schools, cultural centers or places of departure of the cult, as well as all attacks on religious places and shrines.”

The authors of the document also called to condemn the provocations directed against the Holy Book of Muslims – the Koran, characterizing them as “Acts of religious hatred”

The Promotions of the Koran burned on July 25 near Egypt and Turkey embassies in Copenhagen. A similar action was held on the eve of the Iraq embassy.

Muslim leaders and politicians made statements in which it was emphasized that such provocations do not fall under the action of laws on freedom of speech.
