UN Emergency Coordinator Called To Extend Hand Of Syria

Deputy Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and the UN Extraindicator Tom Fletcher called on the world community to extend the hand of Syria’s assistance.

“This is the moment when the world needs to react, stretch out a helping hand and establish a connection with the rescued,” Fletcher wrote on the social network X after visiting the Syrian city of Homs. The UN representative also shared a video shot among the destroyed buildings in Homs.

Fletcher noted that barrel bombs fell on civilians and other cities, many people were suffered. He recalled that humanitarian workers went to the sounds of bursting shells to help those who were under the rubble.

“We must say to those who are now under bombing in other parts of the world that sooner or later the bombing will stop and can return compassion. We can also rebuild everything over the brick,” Fletcher said.

He emphasized that this is the story of “rejection”, but also the history of hope. “It is important that we are here and are witnesses of this,” said the UN representative.

“Homs, Syria. Most of the places would collapse under such a level of cruelty, suffering and atrocities. However, people again and again tell me that they will recover from the ruins. We should be here with them to realize what they have lost and see what will happen next, ”Fletcher wrote under the video.
