The tragedy in Los Angeles again recalls the destructive consequences of climate change.
This was stated by UN Secretary General Antoniu Guterres, commenting on forest fires in Los Angeles (California, USA).
The UN press service noted that Guterrish is deeply shocked by large-scale destruction caused by forest fires in the Los Angeles area.
The head of the UN expressed condolences to the families of the dead and handed over the words of support for tens of thousands of people who were forced to leave their homes, as well as those who lost their housing as a result of fires.
The General Secretary praised the courage of thousands of firefighters and rescuers, who work in extremely difficult conditions to cope with disaster and protect people’s lives.
“This tragedy again recalls the destructive consequences of climate change and the need for enhanced measures to prevent natural disasters and the fight against them,” the statement said.
The UN head expressed solidarity with the victims and rescuers, emphasizing the willingness of the World Organization to help, if necessary.
According to media reports, at least five fires in the Los Angeles area, including one on Hollywood hills, burned out more than 45 square miles.
According to reports, more than 137 thousand people were forced to leave their homes, at least ten people died.
