Since February 2022, that is, from the beginning of the armed conflict in Ukraine, at least 12,162 civilians have died. This was announced at a briefing in Geneva, an official representative of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (UVKPH) Jeremy Lawrence.
Lawrence drew attention to the fact that from the beginning of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine he passed 1000 days and called the “gloomy turning point” this period.
“Our office confirmed that from February 24, 2022 at least 12,162 peaceful residents were killed, 659 of whom were children. At least 26,919 civilians were injured,” he said.
Lawrence noted that human rights violations in the current process became everyday routine both during the clashes themselves and in the occupied territories.
“We urge all parties to ensure the security and protection of the civilian population,” Lawrence said.
In addition, the representative of the UVKPH announced the need to take effective measures for a complete and impartial investigation in case of statements of violations.
Lawrence recalled that the Supreme Commissioner of the UN Human Rights, Volker Türk once again announced his call to Russia about the “immediate cessation of attacks and the withdrawal of troops from Ukraine.”
