In Turkey, after destructive earthquakes with epicenters in Kakhramanmarash, it is necessary to build at least 500 thousand new houses, the UN said.
The organization’s experts attracted attention to the fact that 1.5 million people remained as a result of disaster without shelter, writes Anadolu.
“This is, of course, the largest earthquake in the history of Turkey and, possibly, the largest natural disaster, which the country has ever encountered,” said the constant representative of the UN development program (UNDP) in Turkey Louise Painton.
Emphasizing the stunning scale of the upcoming task of restoring Turkey, Wydon explained that, according to the available estimates, it is primarily necessary to clear from 116 to 210 million tons of debris.
“For comparison, the last large earthquake in Turkey in 1999, which was also accompanied by a large number of victims, led to the formation of 13 million tons of debris,” she said.
