UN Secretary General: Climate Financing Is Not Charity, This Is An Investment

The world must pay its debt on climatic financing, otherwise humanity will pay for it. Climate financing is not charity, it is investment. Actions to combat climate change are not a choice, this is a necessity. This was stated by UN Secretary General Antoniu Guterrish at the opening of the summit on the climatic actions of the world leaders COP29 in Baku.

GUTERRASH noted that the time to achieve the goal of limiting the increase in the global air temperature to 1.5 degrees expires. “Time is not on our side. This year will almost certainly become the hottest in the history of observations, given the hottest day and a month in the history of observations,” said Gutherrish.

According to him, all disasters of this kind are exacerbated and became a visual lesson of climatic destruction, and “not a single country is safe” from this.

At the same time, the Secretary General attracted attention to climatic injustice, emphasizing that the rich create problems, and the poor pay the highest price.

According to the UN Secretary General, if the emissions do not decrease, and compliance with the requirements will not increase, then each economy will encounter “even greater anger.” “However, there is still reason to hope,” said Guterrish, drawing attention to the fact that scientists, activists and youth require changes.

“Their voices should be heard, not drowned out. Last year, the first year, the volume of investments on the network and renewable energy sources exceeded the investments in fossil fuel. Almost everywhere, solar and wind energy are the cheapest sources of the new production of electricity. An increase in investment in the fragmented Fuel is nonsense, ”said the UN Secretary General.

According to him, global warming should be limited 1.5 degrees. “We must annually reduce global emissions by 9 percent. By 2030, they should be reduced by 43 percent compared to the levels of 2019,” said Guterry.

He noted that developing countries need financing to take measures to combat the climatic crisis.

“insufficient state funding, the crazy cost of capital, crushing climatic disasters and debts payments absorb funds. The result of this is the rejected process of adaptation,” he said.

“We need a new goal of financing, which meets the needs of the day. The world must pay its debt for climatic financing, otherwise humanity will pay for this. Climate financing is not charity, these are investments. Acts to combat climate change – this is not a choice , this is a necessity, ”the UN Secretary General emphasized.
