at the 29th session of the conference of the parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be held in Baku, decisive measures must be taken within the framework of climatic justice, taking into account the interests of developing countries. This was announced in an interview with TASS by the UN Secretary General Antoniu Guterres.
Secretary General noted that each of the last 12 months became hotter than the previous one.
“For the first time, scientists say that in the next few years we will probably encounter a value of 1.5 degrees in global warming, which, of course, does not mean irreversibility. No, I mean that the goal of 1 5 degrees are a long -term goal. “You are decisive measures, but again, in the framework of climatic justice, taking into account the interests of developing countries that do not contribute to climate change, but suffer greatly,” said Guterry.
According to him, this applies to both small islands that see an increase in sea level and African countries where drought has a destructive effect on the population.
“If we can make decisions that will turn the trend of climate change, but at the same time will respond to the needs of those developing countries that experience dramatic consequences and need resources, this will be a significant step forward,” the Secretary General said.
GUERRISH said that developed countries should take on their obligations and make a more effective contribution to the solution of the problems facing developing countries under the pressure of climate change.
