The UN Security Council (UN SB) extended sanctions against the ASh-Shabab terrorist organization until February 28, 2025.
SB UN, consisting of 15 members, unanimously adopted the draft resolution represented by the UK.
The resolution extends the embargo on the illegal import of weapons, the ban on coal export and the authority to interfere with the sea to ensure the prohibition on home -made explosive devices until February 28, 2025.
The embargo of the supplies of weapons, a ban on travel and measures to freeze the assets of the Ash Shabab terrorist organization also remain in force.
Since 2007, Ash Shabab has been attacked by the Government of Somali and the African Union, often organizing terrorist attacks in urban and rural areas.
“ASh-Shabab” was included in the UN Sat Squad April 12, 2010.
In January 2024, the UN helicopter, which made an emergency landing in Somalia, was captured by members of the Ash Shabab terrorist organization.
President Somali Hassan Sheikh Mahmud strengthened the fight against Ash Shabab since 2022, after he took his post.
