In Yemen since the beginning of the year, 9 thousand 418 people have been diagnosed with measles, 77 children have died from a dangerous disease.
This was reported in the UN Office for the coordination of humanitarian issues (VSGV) in Yemen.
The organization said that the statistics of the spread of the measles epidemic in the country are alarming.
In the UN VSL recalled that in 2022, about 22 thousand people in Yemen were infected with measles, 160 died.
It is noted that in addition to measles, the incidence of diphtheria and mortality from these diseases increased.
The World Health Organization in a statement of March 19 warned of the spread of measles and polio in Yemen.
In connection with the civil war in the country and its consequences, the healthcare sector is experiencing a serious shortage of medical equipment.
In Yemen, since 2014, the armed conflict has been continuing, in which, on the one hand, the rebels of the Shiite movement “Ansarullah” and supporters of the overthrown President Yemen Ali Abdullah Salekh, and on the other – government troops loyal to President Abdurabbu Mansuru Hadi.
According to the reports of the UN Supreme Commissioner for Refugees, due to the Civil War, 73 percent of the Yemenis (approximately 23.4 million people) need humanitarian aid, another 4.3 million became displaced persons.
During the conflict, 377 thousand people died, including more than 13 thousand civilians.
