The UN World Food Program (WFP) temporarily suspended the provision of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan “in connection with security uncertainty,” the representative office of Russia under the Food and Agricultural Organization of the UN (FAO).
“WFP temporarily suspended the planned supplies on humanitarian aid corridors in connection with the situation in Afghanistan. But the organization intends to continue working in the country, taking into account the situation on Earth,” said Russia’s representative office at FAO TASS.
Earlier, the official representative of WFP Kun Lee declared the desire to continue humanitarian programs in Afghanistan when security guarantees and partners. According to the position of the organization, the situation in Afghanistan “has all the signs of a humanitarian catastrophe.” According to WFP, each third resident of the country is experiencing an acute food shortage.
