UN: Use Of Long-range Weapons In Russian-Ukrainian War Increased Number Of Victims Among Civilians

Lisa Dawen, Director of the Department for Financing Humanitarian Assistance and the Translation of the Coordination of Humanitarian issues of the UN (VSGV), said that the use of long-range weapons during the Russian-Ukrainian war increases the number of victims among civilians.

Speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council, dedicated to the situation in Ukraine, the pre -Uteen noted that the continuation of the conflict continues to lead to the deaths and injuries of civilians, and also exacerbates the suffering of the civilian population.

According to her, the destruction of civil infrastructure in areas close to the front line creates additional difficulties. “People are forced to choose dangerous ways of migration or stay and risk being killed or wounded,” she added.

The pre -Uteen also warned that the use of long -range weapons since July increases the number of victims among civilians. As a result of attacks in November, 65 people died in 11 regions of Ukraine, 372 were injured – twice as much as in October.

In addition, she expressed concern about the destruction of civil infrastructure, especially in frost conditions, when the temperature in some areas drops to -20 degrees.

She also noted that more than 60% of the energy facilities of Ukraine were damaged as a result of attacks since March this year.

attacks on humanitarian workers

DOUTENT reported that the attacks are also aimed at humanitarian operations. “This year, the number of killed humanitarian workers was three times higher than 2022, reaching 11 people,” she said.

Today, about 14.6 million people in Ukraine need humanitarian assistance, and 10 million have become internal immigrants. Dometen emphasized that humanitarian organizations that are faced with harsh winter conditions and threats of missile attacks continue to work to help those in need.

At the end of her speech, she called on the international community to strictly observe international humanitarian law, including the protection of civilians, civil infrastructure and humanitarian workers, as well as ensure unhindered access to humanitarian aid and complete the conflict as soon as possible.
