Scientists found out that under Eastern Antarctica, a certain active source of geothermal energy is hidden, contributing to the melting of glaciers. This is reported by the Edition Scientific Reports.
In 2018, an international group of scientists, led by experts from the British Antarctic Community, found out that the melting of glaciers in Antarctica could be caused not to global warming, but a certain source of heat underground.
As it turned out, under the eastern region of Antarctica is an unknown active source of geothermal energy. It was possible to reveal about the help of radar sensing.
According to scientists, this source is located at a depth of about three kilometers. Ice melts as if “bottom-up”, and melting water flows into underground lakes.
