Unisef and the World Bank published a joint report on the topic “Children living in poverty in accordance with the international hunger line.”
The report notes that from 2013 to 2022 the number of children living below 2.15 dollars per day and considered to live in extreme poverty conditions decreased by 13% – from 383 million to 333 million. . Covid-19 pandemia led to the fact that 30 million children remained outside this process.
The report says that the goals of the Sustainable Development of the UN will be discussed at the meetings of the UN General Assembly, starting next week in the New York. It is noted that at such a pace by 2030, the goal of committing poverty among children will not be achieved.
According to the report, the largest burden of children’s poverty falls on the Africa region south of Sahara, where 40% of all children of the world living in extreme poverty conditions live.
The report also emphasizes that the level of children’s poverty in this region, which was 54.8% in 2013, increased to 71.1% in 2022.
Unisef and the World Bank calls for governments and interested parties to pay priority attention to this issue.
