The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) called on the Provisional Government of Afghanistan to immediately cancel the ban on the training of girls in the country.
United Director Katherine Russell in a statement dedicated to the beginning of the new school year in Afghanistan, she recalled that girls are forbidden to attend schools after the sixth grade.
“The right of Afghan girls to education has been violated for more than three years. They all need to urgently allow them to return to schools. If these talented and gifted girls will continue to be without education, the consequences will be felt by generations,” Sleeper emphasized.
According to her, if the ban on learning for girls will last until 2030, it will affect more than 4 million children, and its consequences will become “catastrophic”.
Russell also noted that a decrease in the number of female conditions and midwives will lead to a lack of the most important medical services for women, which can lead to the death of more than 3.5 thousand newborns and 1.6 thousand mothers.
“behind these numbers are not just statistical data, but lost lives and destroyed families,” she added.
restrictions for women in Afghanistan
After coming to power in Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, the Taliban movement introduced serious restrictions on women’s work and girls training.
At first they were forbidden to visit the middle and senior classes, and universities in December 2022. Also, Afghan women were forbidden to work in local and international non -governmental organizations.
In addition, the Taliban closed the beauty salons and hairdressers, and previously introduced a ban on women visiting parks, entertainment institutions and gyms, as well as participation in cinema and television series.
