The United Kingdom and the European Union are developing a package of new sanctions against Russian projects in the gas sector, which are planned to be introduced in case of escalation around Ukraine, writes Financial Times with reference to sources.
According to publications, sanctions are supported by the United States. The purpose of the measures being developed is to limit financial and technological infringements associated with Russian initiatives in this area.
It is noted that Europe’s willingness to hit the extensive Russian hydrocarbon industry can also affect European companies, among which British Petroleum, Total and Shell, which invest in the Russian gas sector. This is the first case when Europe thought about restrictions in the Russian gas producing industry, which provides 40% of the needs of the region in this type of fuel.
