The United States does not believe that the conversation between the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at this stage would be constructive. This was stated by the head of the press service of the State Department of Ned Price at a briefing, which is broadcast on YouTube.
“The Russian Federation does not give us reason to believe that the dialogue would be constructive in the current situation,” said Price, answering the question of whether the head of the State Department plans negotiations with the Russian colleague. Last week, direct telephone conversations of the heads of the defense departments of the two countries were held.
“Dialogue between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken may take place if Washington comes to the conclusion that this will facilitate the situation in Ukraine. If the necessary conditions are created, and we will also come to the conclusion that the conversation between them It will contribute to a decrease in the level of violence or relieve the humanitarian position of the Ukrainian people, then the dialogue will take place, ”added PRIS.
Price recalled that the last time Blinken and Lavrov talked on February 12th.
According to him, the United States would “be ready to pick up the phone if the conversation led to constructive results,” however, according to him, the current situation does not give reason to count on them. “Nothing gives us reason to believe that the dialogue will be constructive now,” said the representative of the State Department, noting that the communication channels between Washington and Moscow continue to work, however, “significantly limited” due to difficulties with the work of diplomatic agents.
