The United States increases pressure on Turkey due to strengthening its economic ties with Russia, writes Bloomberg.
The West was angry due to the “cordial” relations of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Now Ankara is becoming an important partner for Moscow, which is limited by sanctions in many areas.
Therefore, officials from Washington were negotiating with Turkish officials regarding the observance of economic restrictions introduced against Russia. “This can be called the last step of the West, aimed at making Ankara take a more stringent position on Moscow,” experts say.
The US delegation at the same time held meetings with the head of the Central Bank of Turkey and representatives of business groups in Ankara and Istanbul. Meetings are planned with representatives of the Ministry of Finance of the country.
