United States recognizes territorial integrity of Somalia

The United States expressed support for the territorial integrity of Somalia after the signing of the Memorandum of understanding between Ethiopia and Somaliland, which announced its one -sided independence from Somalia.

“The United States recognize the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Somalia, including Somaliland,” the US Embassy said in Mogadisho, posted on the social network X.

Having indicated that the status of somaliland is a question that Somalians should solve, including the people of Somaliland, it is noted that the growth of tension due to the signed Memorandum of understanding causes fears that he threatens to disrupt the struggle with “Ash Shabab”

The statement calls for the parties to refrain from rash actions, which can create for the “Ash Shabab” the opportunity to expand the sphere of their influence.

Somaliland, which unilaterally proclaimed independence from Somalia in 1991, allowed the Ethiopia to use its coast for commercial and military purposes in accordance with the Memorandum of mutual understanding signed on January 1.

Somaliland announced that Ethiopia recognizes it after signing the final agreement.

The Somali government recalled its ambassador from Ethiopia after Ethiopia signed an agreement on access to the sea with Somaliland.
