The United States intends to modernize the Tula military base in the north of Greenland, reports the Danish newspaper Berlingske with reference to the report of the American control body.
The document refers to the allocation of billions of dollars for needs in the Arctic, including the improvement of the Tula base. The same information to the newspaper was confirmed by sources in the United States. The statement of the leadership of the US Air Force received by the publication from the US Embassy, is of interest in this facility whose infrastructure is outdated. At the same time, neither the Greenland government nor the Danish parliament know what exactly the planned modernization of the island base consists. The issue was also never discussed in the parliamentary committees of Greenland and defense.
“We do not want to talk. When it comes to us, we want to participate. It [the base] is in our country, and therefore we want to know when something is happening,” quotes the chairman of the Greenland Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs and security Pipaluk Lunge Rasmussen TASS.
