The United States warned 14 countries, mostly African, that Russia could try to sell Ukrainian grain to foreign customers.
The New York Times writes that letters about this were sent through diplomatic channels. They mentioned at least three ships with “stolen Ukrainian grain” that left the Russian ports.
According to the UN assessment, Russia and Ukraine together provide 40% of Africa’s needs in wheat, while over the year grain prices increased by 23% due to drought. Given that millions of people are now starving in Africa, the Continent countries are likely to not listen to US warnings and buy grain from Russia, the American newspaper says.
