The Supreme Commissar of the UN Human Rights, Folker Turk expressed deep concern in connection with the deportation of 40 Uyghur Turks from Thailand to China.
Deportation of 40 Uyghur Turks, who have been in prison in Thailand, is a clear violation of international legal norms and standards for the protection of human rights, follows from the text of the written statement of the Turk.
“This violates the principle of non-dumping, which is completely prohibited if there is a risk of torture, cruelty or other irreparable harm in case of their return,” the UN Supreme Commissioner said.
The Turk recalled that the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has repeatedly called on Thailand authorities to observe its international obligations in relation to these persons in need of protection at the international level.
The Turk expressed regret in connection with the violent expulsion of the Uyghur Turks. “It is important that the Chinese authorities immediately reveal their whereabouts and ensure the treatment of them in accordance with international standards in the field of human rights,” follows from the text of the statement.
