The largest Urmia Lake in Iran is under threat of drying due to climatic changes in the region, reports Al Arabiya.
“If the approved plans to save the lake are not fully implemented, it will definitely dry out and there will be no hope for its restoration,” Al Arabiya quotes the representatives of the Ministry of Environment Ashrafizade.
The official, in particular, pointed out the need to stop the construction of new dams on tributaries that feed the lake.
Lake Urmia is recognized as an object of international significance in accordance with the UN Convention.
