US Ambassador accused Lavrov of nuclear blackmail

American authorities “do not engage in irresponsible rhetoric in relation to nuclear weapons,” said US Ambassador to the Russian Federation John Sullivan. He criticized the Russian authorities after the words of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov, who said that the risks of nuclear war were “very significant.” It is reported by “Kommersant”.

Sullivan told CNN that the United States was “ready to contain nuclear aggression” against them. According to the diplomat, the rhetoric of the potential use of Russia’s nuclear weapons “intensified in an extremely irresponsible way,” but, in his opinion, there is nothing new in this. He expressed surprise to the behavior of the Russian authorities.

John Sullivan recalled that the United States, on the contrary, canceled the planned tests of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile: “We will not give in to nuclear blackmail, but we will not tolerate nuclear weapons and balancing on the verge of nuclear war.”

Sergey Lavrov claims that the inadmissibility of nuclear war is a fundamental position of Russia. At the same time, in the context of the war in Ukraine, the Russian minister said that the Russian Federation does not plan to use nuclear weapons at this stage. US President Joe Biden called such statements irresponsible.
