The US authorities offered the Chinese government to organize the supply of modern MRNC-vaccines necessary to combat the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus infection, but they were refused, Bloomberg reports with reference to its sources.
The interlocutors of the agency said that, taking into account the special “political sensitivity” of the issue of the supply of vaccines, it was proposed to establish through intermediaries.
According to Bloomberg, the proposals for the supply of vaccines were made by high -ranking American diplomats, including during the December visit to China, US Secretary of State Daniel Critheld Rosenberger, who oversees the issues of relations with China in the US National Security Council. In recent weeks, the American authorities, alarmed by an increase in the number of infection in China and the emergence of new strains of the virus, activated their efforts, but each time they were refused. Contacts continue, but Chinese officials claim that they keep the situation under control and do not need help, the agency’s interlocutors said.
The representative of the Chinese Embassy in Washington said that the vaccines developed in the PRC are highly effective, and their production provides not only the country’s internal needs, but also creates opportunities for export.
Speaking about the reluctance of the Chinese authorities to agree to receive vaccines from the United States, Bloomberg notes that Beijing has always reluctantly accepted assistance from outside during crises, and in the current conditions the consent will demonstrate the inability of China to independently develop an effective MRNC-vaccine.
“Even at the height of the catastrophic outbreak of Covid -19, Beijing continues to demonstrate vaccine nationalism – a solution that will undoubtedly lead to unnecessary deaths,” said the head of the Department of Chinese in the center of strategic and international research, Jud Blanchett.
On January 6, the official representative of the Ministry of China Mao Nin said that the situation with the Covid-19 in the PRC is currently under control. At the same time, the Chinese Center for Control and Prevention of Diseases stated that the likelihood of a large-scale outbreak in China of the epidemic caused by the XBB, the subvariant of the Omicron-Summam Covid-19, is evaluated as low, the Sinhua agency reports.
