US President Donald Trump accepted several new ambassadors in the White House, which will soon go to different countries after the Senate approval.
Among them is a candidate for the post of US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrak, who, together with other future diplomats, made a short statement for the press.
Having grateful to Trump, Barrak called Turkey “one of the oldest civilizations.”
In response to this, Trump said that Türkiye was a good country and praise the Turkish colleague Recep Tyipa Erdogan.
Who is Tom Barrak?
77-year-old Barrak, nominated for the post of ambassador in Turkey, was born and raised in the state of California.
received higher education at the University of South California, and then graduated from the Law Faculty of San Diego University.
Barrak is the grandson of Christian migrants from Lebanon, who moved to the United States in 1900 from the city of Zakhla. His father worked as a grocer, and his mother was a secretary. The family lived in Kalver City, a suburbs of Los Angeles.
During his studies, he played at Rugby, was fond of sports, and later worked as a lawyer in Saudi Arabia.
In the 1980s, Barrak held the post of deputy assistant Ministry of Internal Affairs in the administration of Ronald Reagan.
