In August 2019, it became known that the then US President Donald Trump considered the possibility of buying Greenland. This idea was discussed with his advisers who considered the plan economically appropriate. Later, the former American leader confirmed the interest in the acquisition of the island and compared a possible purchase with a major real estate acquisition transaction.
Washington also announced readiness every year to pay Denmark Subsidies in the framework of the transaction for the purchase of Greenland in the amount of $ 600 million. It was also noted that Trump offered to exchange Puerto Rico on Greenland.
