The American Bible Museum and Cornell University returned to Iraq 17 thousand artifacts associated with the history of the country. It is reported by the New York Times.
Collection consisting mainly of clay plates and seals returned to Iraq last week on the plane of the Prime Minister of the country after his official visit to the United States.
Museum acquired artifacts from the seller who did not provide documents about their origin. The university received signs as a gift from a private collector. Having studied the subjects of scientists suggested that they were abducted in the south of Iraq on the ruins of the previously unknown ashes of the Harsana city.
Tens of thousands of old objects disappeared from Iraq after the US invasion in 2003. Even more artifacts were taken out or destroyed the game, which from 2014 to 2017 was held by a third of Iraq.
